Now that you are ready to make a change in your life and you’re ready to make that first appointment with your Naturopathic health specialist we will give you a small packet of information and forms to fill out. There will be a standard personal information and health history form much like the one you’ve filled out for your M.D. or dentist, a consent and waiver form, and an eating history sheet for you to fill out. This last sheet will have spaces for you to put down everything you put into your mouth for an entire week.
When you come to the office the consultant will quickly go over your paperwork and ask you a few initial questions. You will be asked about your health history, your current complaint(s), your current work and home situations, and the stresses in your life. We will talk about your eating habits, and talk about
any medicines and/or vitamins and other nutritional products you are taking. Finally we will discuss your options for changes you can make that might help you get healthy, ease your symptoms, lower the stress in your life, and might even prevent you from getting ill in the future. These options will include short term and long term goals for a healthier life. But please keep in mind that there is no such thing as a miracle cure or a magic bullet, so you must be prepared and willing to make healthy changes in your life to achieve your goals. If you’ve had this health problem for a long time, it might have been building up for a long time before you knew you had a problem, and it will take time for your body to heal itself once we take away the obstacles to health.
Be prepared to learn about different things that you can do everyday to make your life better. From simple exercises that you can do while cooking or cleaning your house, learning how to use hydrotherapy to help increase your circulation and help detoxify you skin, learning how to sneak healthier foods into your finicky family members diets, to learning about stress reducing techniques including yoga, spiritual studies, and even spending time alone every day. We will go beyond nutrition and look at your whole body as well as your whole life to find solutions to what is affecting your whole self.
We will not suggest that you use naturopathy and the lessons of natural health as an alternative to your M.D., but you may find it complements the main stream health field very well and that you can use the two together. We ask you to keep your M.D. up to date with all natural products that you decide to take, and any new eating habits or exercising regimens that you decide to begin.
Please be prepared to be amazed at how simple it can be to live a healthier lifestyle, and how much better you can feel.
